Potatoes are planted all year round which results in a constant supply of fresh potatoes to the local market 365 days a year. We’re the only state in Australia to do this! For the consumer it means a secure source of safe, reliable nutritious food every day of the week!
In WA there are varieties available all year round, some seasonal varieties and some trial varieties available in small quantities. It is not possible to grow all the same potato varieties as the East Coast as our climate and soils are different.
To answer one of our most commonly asked questions…………..The reason you can’t find more varieties on the shelves is there is a limit to the shelf space retailers will give potatoes.
Did you know? It takes around 10 years to develop, trial and grow a new potato variety.
